Uninstall Trend Antivirus Without Password

Trend Micro OfficeScan is normally deployed in corporate network environment to provide endpoint security. Administrators can remotely uninstall the Office Scan client, and user at the workstation can uninstall the client program using built-in uninstall mechanism too (i.e. Add and Remove Program in Control Panel). If for some reason, the Office Scan client cannot or unable to uninstall, or user doesn’t have the required password to remove the OfficeScan client, try the following workaround to manually uninstall and remove Trend Micro OfficeScan.

1. Go to Control Panel Services (services.msc), and stop the following services:
   • OfficeScanNT Listener
   • OfficeScanNT RealTimeScan
   • OfficeScanNT Personal Firewall (if enabled)
2. Run Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
3. Navigate to the following registry key hive:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServices

4. Delete the following keys (if available):
   • Ntrtscan
   • Tmlisten
   • TmFilter
   • VSApiNt
   • TMPreFilter
   • TM_CFW
   • OfcPfwSvc
5. Navigate to the following registry hive:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARETrendMicro

   or

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Wow6432NodeTrendMicro (in 64-bit Windows operating system)

6. Delete the following keys (if available):
   • OfcWatchDog
   • Pc-cillinNTCorp or OfficeScanCorp (depending on the client)
   • RemoteAgent
   • PC-cillin
   • CFW
7. Browse to the following registry key hive:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE MicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun

8. Delete the OfficeScanNT Monitor key.
9. Navigate to the following registry key:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall

10. Delete the OfficeScanNT key.
11. Delete the OfficeScan program group (Trend Micro OfficeScan Client) from the Windows Start menu.
12. Restart the computer.
13. Delete the directories that contain the OfficeScan Client program files, normally located inside Program Files folder.

Click Control Panel Add or Remove Programs. Locate Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security Agent and click Change or Uninstall, whichever is available. Follow the on-screen instructions. If prompted, type the uninstallation password. The Security Server notifies the user of the uninstallation progress and completion. To uninstall the client/agent using the web console: Log on to the OfficeScan web console. Refer to the following KB article if you have forgotten your password: Resetting the console password in. Go to either: Networked Computers Client Management (v10.x) Agents Agent Management (v11.0/XG).

Above steps work for OfficeScan 7.x client in Windows 2003/XP/2000/NT/Vista/2008 machine. For Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition (OSCE) – 5.58, OfficeScan Corporate Edition (OSCE) – 6.5, Client / Server / Messaging Suite for SMB – 2.0, follow these manual uninstallation steps instead.

1. Delete the Trend Micro OfficeScan Client program shortcut in Start Menu, by right click on it and then choose Delete.
2. Delete the installed files located in the OfficeScan folder under the Program FilesTrend MicroOfficeScan Client directory.
3. Open the Registry Editor (regedit).
4. Navigate to the following registry key:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareTrendMicro

5. Delete the following keys:
   • OfcWatchDog
   • PC-cillin
   • PC-cillinNTCorp
6. Also delete the following registry hives:
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunOfficeScanNT Monitor
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstallOfficeScanNT
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesntrtscan
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicestmfilter
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicestmlisten
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTmPreFilter (for Win2003)
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesVSApiNt
7. Right click on My Computer, click Manage and then select Device Manager.
8. Enable the Show Hidden Devices option.
9. Remove the following hidden devices in Non-Plug and Play Drivers tree pertaining to OfficeScan (right-click and select Uninstall):
   • Trend Micro VSAPI NT
   • Trend Micro FILTER
   • Common Firewall Driver
   • NTRTSCAN (if available)
   • TMLISTEN (if available)
10. Restart the OfficeScan client machine.

There are many different antivirus programs on the market. If an antivirus is already installed on your computer and you want to install a different antivirus on the computer, you must uninstall the current antivirus program first. Below are the steps on how to uninstall an antivirus program.

Having more than one antivirus program running on a computer at the same time often causes conflicts, resulting in errors, slow performance, and failure to properly detect viruses.

Keep in mind that if you have a subscription with the antivirus company, uninstalling the program may not cancel your subscription.

If you are uninstalling the antivirus because you believe it is causing problems, you can also temporarily disable the antivirus before uninstalling.

Uninstall through the Start menu

The first way is to utilize the built-in uninstall feature of the program by finding the folder for the antivirus program in your Windows Start menu. To do this, click Start, All Programs, and look for the antivirus program in the list of programs.

When you find the antivirus program in the list, locate the uninstall option, which should be in the same folder. If this is available, click the uninstall option and follow the prompts to complete the uninstallation of the antivirus.

Uninstall through Add or Remove programs

The second way is to utilize Add or Remove Programs.

Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10 users

1. Open the Add or Remove Programs.
2. In the list of installed programs, find the antivirus program and select it by clicking it once with the left mouse button. Once the antivirus program is selected, above the column headers, click the Uninstall option as shown in the picture below to initiate the uninstall process.

Some antivirus programs may be listed several times in the list of programs. Make sure you've uninstalled all associated parts of the antivirus before rebooting the computer or installing another antivirus.

If you're unable to uninstall the antivirus through Add or Remove Programs because of an error, skip to uninstalling from Safe Mode. If the antivirus program is not listed in the Add or Remove Programs, you may have a bad antivirus install or a rogue antivirus.

Windows XP users

1. Open the Add or Remove Programs.
2. In the list of installed programs, find the antivirus program and select it by clicking it once with the left mouse button. To the right of the program name, click the Change/Remove or Uninstall button to initiate the uninstall process.

Some antivirus programs may be listed several times in the list of programs. Make sure you've uninstalled all associated parts of the antivirus before rebooting the computer or installing another antivirus.

If you're unable to uninstall the antivirus through Add or Remove Programs because of an error, skip to uninstalling from Safe Mode. If the antivirus program is not listed in the Add or Remove Programs, you may have a bad antivirus install or a rogue antivirus.

Uninstalling from Safe Mode

In some cases, the uninstall process may not be able to proceed because the antivirus program is currently loaded and running in Windows. If the program cannot be disabled, uninstall the antivirus in Windows Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, the antivirus program is not loaded and running, making it possible to uninstall using either method mentioned earlier.

Bad antivirus program

In some situations, a legitimate antivirus program cannot uninstall because it or the software used to uninstall it is corrupt, bad, or missing. In these situations, you must download an uninstaller program from the antivirus scanner company to remove all files associated with the antivirus. Below is a list of known uninstall links for many of the major antivirus scanner companies.

Rogue antivirus programs

There is also the possibility that the antivirus program attempting to be uninstalled is actually a spyware or malware. There are fake antivirus programs on the Internet and they can do harm to a computer or help someone steal your information. One of the better-known ones to have plagued many computer users is called AntiVirus 2011.

If your computer is infected malware programs posing as an antivirus program, it is strongly recommended that they be uninstalled. You should run a spyware removal program such as Malwarebytes to clean your computer of any other possible spyware or malware programs.
