1. I have an ATI Rage Pro card and cannot get the movies to play.
Both the 16mb and 32mb ATI Rage Pro cards were tested on a variety of systems and the movies played with no problem. The video card driver was the ATI2DRAA.DRV version 4.12.01.6292 English. The mini VDD was the ATI2VXAA.VXD. When running under ATI Rage Pro cards, ensure you have the same updated drivers as listed above.

2. I have Win 9x and save my games. When I go to load them, the games do not appear. What can I do?
Depending upon where you save the game (it seems to happen in Fleet Set-up rather than in-game), the game is saving the saved files to your WindowsSystem folder. Until this is fixed with the patch, you can manually copy the saved files to the Dominion Wars directory for them to be found.

3. I have a GeForce graphics card and my system crashes after I launch a mission.
Check your system settings to see what the AGP port is set on. If the setting is set on '4x,' you'll need to change it to '2x.' Save and exit. To change your setting, you'll need to go into the system BIOS. When booting your machine, hit DEL to enter the system set-up. Find the graphics/video display settings, and look for the AGP port setting. It will probably be either 4x, 2x, or normal. Dominion Wars will work with the setting at 2x or normal.
4. The Manual details that I can change my video resolution settings from the Options menu. But I can't find the ability to do that anywhere.
The ability to change video options did not make it into the final version of the game and thus you will not be able to change your settings. It is fixed at 800x600 16-bit.
5. I'm not getting intro movies, the tutorials, and the music is not playing OR I'm getting a 'direct draw enumeration' error when trying to load the game.
There are a few things you should try:
  1. Ensure you have the latest video card drivers.
3Dfx card users should go to: http://www.voodoofiles.com/category.asp?x=2
nVidia card users should go to: http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=drivers
ATI card users should go to: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBList.asp?folderID=27
Matrox card users should go to: http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/home.cfm
  2. Make sure your desktop resolution is not 1600x1200 (or higher) and 32-bit color. The game has problems auto-adjusting that high of a resolution. Reduce the resolution to 1024x768 16-bit and that should work fine.
  3. For ATI Rage Pro users, you most likely will need to download updated Digital Video drivers from the Microsoft website. The current Rage Pro divers do not contain the proper decompression ultilities to allow Dominion Wars' Bink movies to play. Updating with the latest Digital Video drivers should solve the problem. Users of other video cards, such as the Voodoo3 or Geforce 2 GTS, might find this update beneficial as well if no other solutions are working. Here is that link from the Microsoft site:

6. I have a 3Dfx card and I'm not getting movies or tutorials. I have the latest drivers.
Try disabling the advanced 3Dfx option, 'Scanline Interleaving (SLI)' and the movies should now play. It is located in the 3Dfx options control panel. After altering the setting, you should reboot your machine.

7. The game loads about 75% of the way then freezes
Here is a work-around for the problem: Go into the Preferences/Options menu of the game and move the MUSIC bar all the way to the left (to MIN). That should solve the starting of a new game or the loading of a saved game.

8. When I launch the game, the game crashes immediately. Make sure your desktop resolution is not 1600x1200 (or higher) and 32-bit color. The game has problems auto-adjusting that high of a resolution. Reduce the resolution to 1024x768 16-bit and that should work fine.

9. When I go to save games, the program crashes.
You cannot currently overwrite an existing saved game. You will need to simply enter a new name for each saved game. You can delete old games by manually going into your Dominion Wars saved games folder through Windows Explorer, and deleting the saved games there.

10. The movies will pop up briefly, but then they disappear as if I have bypassed them when I haven't touched anything.
If you have a wireless mouse, this is a known issue. Swap our your wireless mouse with a PS2 or USB mouse then reboot your machine. Allow Windows to install the correct drivers.
